Prayer to God for Mercy (Psalm 86, Part 1)

Just as David prays for God’s mercy, those of us who have a relationship with God by faith in Jesus Christ can pray for God’s mercy. God’s mercy reveals His goodness, greatness and grace.

Prayer for Mercy: The Goodness of God (verses 1-7)

In prayer we can appeal to God’s mercy based on His goodness. When we become aware of our spiritual destitution and utter dependence on God, we can exalt God because we belong to Him. Ready to forgive, God hears the prayers of His people. In answer to our prayers He manifests His great mercy and brings us joy.

Good God, full of mercy, answer us, for we are poor and needy. We trust in You, our God. Be gracious to us; make our hearts glad. The closer we are to You, the greater our joy. Draw us nearer, good and forgiving God. In the midst of our troubles we call on You, Lord our God, because You answer us.
