The God-Given Banner (Psalm 60, Part 3)

The Banner of Victory (Verses 11-12)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2060:11-12&version=NIV

Our victory from distress comes only from God. May we fix our faith and hope firmly on Him. God will bring us through our adversity with renewed strength and joy. God will victoriously deliver us—in His mercy and power.

Victorious God, we raise Your banner of victory because You have come to our rescue. With You, Lord God, we gain the victory as we wait for You to fulfill Your promise to overcome the powers of this world. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss:
From vict’ry unto vict’ry
His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished
And Christ is Lord indeed.

The God-Given Banner (Psalm 60, part 2)

The Banner of Delivery (verses 5-8)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2060:5-8&version=NIV

God delivers us from the power of our enemies. Amid all the political distractions that bombard us, may we pray for the day when all nations will bow down under Christ’s banner. May we find our joy in Christ, rejoicing in Christ’s triumph.

Thank You, Lord God, that You have delivered us. We pray for the deliverance of the people You love in Jefferson County. You have spoken from Your sanctuary: “In triumph I will parcel out Jefferson County and measure off Beaver Valley. Chimacum is mine, and Port Hadlock is mine; Irondale is my helmet, Port Ludlow my scepter. Brinnon is my washbasin, upon Quilcene I toss my sandal; over Port Townsend I shout in triumph.”

The Banner to Lead (verses 9-10)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2060:9-10&version=NIV

At the present time, God seems to have left us at the mercy of our foes. However, God will restore and heal fragmented lives undone by evil. May we look to God to overcome our difficulties. May God lead us under His banner.

God our Leader, bring us to Yourself. Restore, heal and lead our lives.

The God-Given Banner (Psalm 60, Part 1)

All around us we see banners extolling political points of view. The banners lead and we follow. May we follow God’s banner of truth as we affirm our faith in God’s sovereignty.

The Banner Raised (verses 1-4)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2060:1-4&version=NIV

The great mission of the church is to unfurl God’s banner in triumph, to make His truth known. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, demonstrated our vulnerability as a nation. Following the attacks we saw churches and prayer services packed—but only briefly. We then returned to our complacent attitudes. May we raise up the banner of the good news of gospel.

Loving God, our land has been shaken. Mend the fractures in our society and in Your church. Bring us victorious through these desperate times. Help us to unfurl Your banner of truth here in Jefferson County.

God Delivers Us from our Enemy (Psalm 59, Part 3)

Triumph over the enemy (verses 14-17)

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2059:14-17&version=NIV

God, the source of our strength, enables us to endure the enemy’s onslaught. God provides us with a refuge in times of trouble. The greater our trials the more intense our joyful gratitude. May God’s protection transform our lament into songs of confidence.

Triumphant God, thank You that You are our refuge in times of trouble. We will sing of Your strength and love; for You are our fortress and our refuge. Our Strength, we sing praise to You, our loving God on whom we can rely.

A mighty fortress is our God,
A bulwark never failing;
Our helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing.

God Delivers Us from Our Enemy (Psalm 59, Part 2)

The enemy attack (verses 6-10a)

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2059:6-9&version=NIV

With the current economic crisis our world seems to spin out of control on its way to destruction. Unmoved, God laughs at the efforts of His enemies to harm His faithful ones. May our difficulties lead us to prayer and increase our faith. Then may our prayers and faith lead us to praise God. May we pray for our enemies, that God’s mercy would go before them, as it goes before us.

Laughing God, our enemies return to attack us. See what they spew from their mouths. We thank You that You are our strength and fortress. We can rely on You.

Punishment of the enemy (verses 10b-13)

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2059:10-13&version=NIV

Our airwaves are full of slander and deception. In the midst of this media bombardment may we place our confidence in our powerful God. We know we are safe, because God is the God of our mercy. May the whole world know that God justly punishes.

Thank You, Lord God our shield, that You will go before us. In Your justice, Lord, let the ends of the earth know that You rule over the earth.

God Delivers Us from Our Enemy (Psalm 59, Part 1)

We cannot escape our enemies and their evil work. We need to listen for God’s voice through His Word. The perversion and corruption of our society waits for God’s deliverance.

The waiting enemy (verses 1-5)

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2059:1-5&version=NIV

God will deliver His church from its waiting enemies—the world, the flesh and the devil. In the meantime may God deliver us from our indifference to Him, renewing our zeal. When our enemies attack us without cause may we remember Jesus’ unfair treatment.

Protecting God, deliver us from our enemies; be our fortress against those who attack us. Uphold us and cleanse us. Come to help us, Lord God Almighty. Look at our condition and be sure to deliver us.
