The Bounty of God (Psalm 65, Part 2)

God of Might in the Earth (verses 5-8)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2065:5-8&version=NIV

God’s rule extends to the ends of the earth. He is the God of the universe. God wants all peoples to join in praising God our Savior. God sets the mountains firm by His strength, He calms the raging seas, and He makes nature rejoice. Even our human society is preserved by God’s continued power. We respond to God with songs of joy.

We praise You, God of might in the earth. We pray that the testimony of Your Son Jesus Christ will reach the ends of the earth. Thank You for Your creative power over the whole earth which is filled with Your wonders. We sing songs of joy to You.

The Bounty of God (Psalm 65, Part 1)

If we can take our focus off ourselves and our stuff we may be able to see the bounty of God and what God is doing in His Church, His earth and His harvest. We can then praise our God of grace in His temple, our God of might in the earth, and our God of plenty in the harvest.

God of Grace in the Temple (verses 1-4)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2065:1-4&version=NIV

God’s restoration means the joy of dwelling in His temple. God receives all who come to Him in faith. He hears all who speak to Him in prayer. He forgives all who are overwhelmed with sin. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. May the community of God’s people—His Church—join together to praise God for sins forgiven and prayers answered. As we dwell in His household He is our blessing.

We praise You, God of grace, in the Temple; for forgiving our transgressions when we were overwhelmed by our sins. Praise You for answering our prayers. We whom You have chosen and brought to live in Your courts, You have filled with the good things of Your house, Your holy temple.

A Prayer for Protection (Psalm 64, Part 3)

A Declaration (verses 7-10)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2064:7-10&version=NIV

In the end the wicked get what they had planned to give. The words of our enemies will testify against them and condemn them. Our enemies’ most mischievous weapons are words, but our chief weapon is the Word. We may vanquish our enemies with the Word of God. May we hope in God during our adversity, declaring our protection in Him. We have His redemption, His adoption, His good name, and His final deliverance. May we therefore be glad in Him, take refuge in Him, and glory in Him.

Lord God of mercy, we rejoice in You and take refuge in You. Preserve us from our enemies, and save us in Your Son. Help us to declare Your work through our lives and ponder what You have done. We glory in You!

When your enemies assail and your heart begins to fail,
Don’t forget that God in heaven answers prayer;
He will make a way for you and will lead you safely through—
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

A Prayer for Protection (Psalm 64, Part 2)

A Testimony (verses 3-6)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2064:3-6&version=NIV

The evildoers around us use destructive language to discredit and hurt. Their deadly words cut and pierce. Since the enemy attacked our Lord himself, we can be sure he will attack us. May we bind ourselves in solidarity to our community of faith and learn to trust in God. We need not stand alone but gain power as the united people of God and give testimony to Him.

Lord our God, the sharpened tongues of our enemies hurt like deadly arrows. They shoot at us from ambush suddenly and without fear. May the body of Christ in Jefferson County stand our ground and increase in solidarity as the community of faith. Protect us from the cunning of our enemies. We give testimony to You.

A Prayer for Protection (Psalm 64, Part 1)

God will protect us from those who hide to ambush us. When we delight in God by faith, eventually we will fully realize our joy when we see God as He truly is.

A Petition (verses 1-2)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2064:1-2&version=NIV

May we petition God to hear our complaints and preserve our lives from threatening foes. Since God does hear us, may we make prayer our first and most trusted resource in our times of need.

We petition You to hear us, our God. Thank You that You protect our lives from the threats of our enemies. Hide us from the conspiracy of the wicked in our society. Hide us from the plots of evildoers.

Longing for God (Psalm 63, Part 3)

God our Defense (verses 9-11)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2063:9-11&version=NIV

Is our connection to God so important that we would sacrifice our future hopes and dreams to keep connected with God? May God help us to live our lives in His covenant love. Our defense, God delivers us to a life of fellowship to enjoy God. The deception of our adversaries will ultimately cease. God’s justice will win, and those who love God will continue to praise Him.

God our defense, thank You for defending and caring for us. We rejoice in You our God. We praise You and we glory in You.

Better than life itself thy love,
      Dearer than all beside to me;
For whom have I in heaven above,
Or what on earth, compared to Thee?
James Montgomery (1771-1853)
