Prayer for Deliverance (Psalm 69), Part 1

When we suffer persecution for our loyalty to God we may pray to God for deliverance. The juxtaposition of cursing tormentors and Jesus praying for his tormentors reveals the gulf between type and antitype.

Call for Deliverance (verses 1-21)

In our desperation we can call to God for deliverance. When we endure scorn and shame for His sake may we acknowledge our own guilt to God and allow our contrition to humble us before Him. Since no one is free from misery and suffering may we be sensitive and sympathetic to others in hardships.

God our Deliverer, save us. We feel worn out calling for help. Our own guilt is not hidden from You. Do not hide Your face from Your people in Jefferson County. Lord our God, fill us with love for those around us who scorn us and You.
