A Testimony (verses 12-19)
12Blessed is the one you
discipline, Lord,
the one you teach from
your law;
13you grant them relief from days of trouble,
13you grant them relief from days of trouble,
till a
pit is dug for the wicked.
14For the Lord will not reject his people;
14For the Lord will not reject his people;
he will never forsake his inheritance.
15Judgment will again be founded on righteousness,
15Judgment will again be founded on righteousness,
and all the upright in
heart will follow it.
16Who will rise up for me
against the wicked?
Who will take a stand for me against
evildoers?
17Unless the Lord had given me help,
17Unless the Lord had given me help,
I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.
18When I said, “My foot is slipping,”
18When I said, “My foot is slipping,”
your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
19When anxiety was great within me,
19When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought me joy.
God
graciously disciplines and instructs those who respond to Him. The government
of the world is under those who use it for their own gain. Yet God does not
desert His people; instead, He uses our troubles to teach us patience and love.
May we give testimony to God’s justice and righteousness, and learn to rest in Him.
In our suffering we have no defense against evil people and no comfort except
in God alone. May we ground our hope in God’s promises, leaning on Him alone. May
we promote God’s kingdom on earth, and here in Jefferson County. Let us turn
away from the oppression around us to the sanctuary of rest found in the God of
all comfort. He will sustain and cheer our hearts.
O Lord our
God, we whom You discipline are blessed. Instruct and teach us. Loving God, give
us rest from our troubles. Thank You that justice will return to the righteous.
We will bless You, Lord, at all times. Your praise will continually be on our lips.
In Your steadfast love, O Lord, hold us up. When the cares of our hearts are
many, your consolations cheer our souls.
