A Triumph (verses
20-23)
20Can a corrupt throne be
allied with you—
a throne that brings on misery
by its decrees?
21The wicked band together against the righteous
21The wicked band together against the righteous
and condemn the innocent to death.
22But the Lord has become my fortress,
22But the Lord has become my fortress,
and my God the rock in whom I take refuge.
23He will repay them for their sins
23He will repay them for their sins
and destroy them for their wickedness;
the Lord our
God will destroy them.
Human
kingdoms are destructive, but the kingdom of God is restorative. May we trust
in God’s overruling government. The Judge of the Earth will dispense discipline
to the nations. In ultimate triumph God will remove all forms of evil from the
world. May we therefore by faith read the present in the light of the future.
We come to
You, triumphant God, we make You our stronghold. You, our God, are the rock of our
refuge. You hold our future in Your hands. Thank You.
I know that
my Redeemer lives:
What joy the
blest assurance gives! . . .
He lives my
hungry soul to feed;
He lives to
help in time of need.
Samuel Medley (1738-1799)
