How Great are Your Works, Oh God (Psalm 92, Part 2)

Heedless Arrogance (verses 5-9)

⁵How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!
⁶Senseless people do not know, fools do not understand,

         ⁷that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish,

         they will be destroyed forever.

⁸But you, Lord, are forever exalted.

⁹For surely your enemies, Lord, surely your enemies will perish;

         all evildoers will be scattered.

God’s acts cannot be separated from His nature. His works draw us to humble devotion. In worship may we recognize and celebrate God’s greatness. May seeing God’s works reveal to us what is really happening. God rules over the world as the One-who-is-on High. He is exalted as the supreme Judge.

How great are Your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep! You, O Lord, are on high forever. Remove any heedless arrogance from us. Holy God, Your exaltation completely removes any opposition to Your sovereignty.
