How Great are Your Works, Oh God (Psalm 92, Part 3)

Endless Vitality (verses 10-15)

10You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox;
         fine oils have been poured on me.
11My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;
      my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.
12The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
         they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
13planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.
14They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green,
      15proclaiming, “The Lord is upright;
      he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”

May we boldly make God’s exploits and mercy our delight and inheritance. Those who dwell in fellowship with God will grow rich in grace. May we therefore live lives of obedience to God. As we rejoice in the promise that God’s favor will rest on us even in old age, may our vitality lie in God’s blessing and protection. God’s justice gives us hope.

Thank You, Everlasting God, that we are planted in the house of the Lord, and flourish in the courts of our God. Thank You for Your endless vitality. May we bear fruit in our old age, as we declare that You, Lord, are upright, and Your “uprightness” is good! You alone are reliable!

Sweet is the day of sacred rest,
Nor mortal cares shall seize my breast.
O may my heart in tune be found,
Like David’s harp of solemn sound!
Isaac Watts (1674-1748)
