Living the Righteous Life (Psalm 101, Part 2)

I Will Reject Evil (verses 3-5)

3I will not look with approval on anything that is vile.
      I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it.
4The perverse of heart shall be far from me;
      I will have nothing to do with what is evil.
5Whoever slanders their neighbor in secret, I will put to silence;
         whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, I will not tolerate.

May we reject evil in any form and cultivate purity of mind, heart, and relationships. What attracts our eyes quickly enters our hearts. May we therefore keep our eyes focused on God. May we keep our attention away from evil and those who pursue evil. Slander, gossip, and false witness reveal the true heart condition of humans. Greed, pride, and slander often go together, just as do self-denial, love, and fidelity.

Loving God, keep our eyes from anything that is worthless and turn our focus away from You. Keep perversity far from us. Help us to completely reject any form of evil.
