Remembering (Psalm 106, Part 1)

Between the beginning and ending of praise we read the sad details of Israel’s sins and God’s extraordinary patience. In spite of Israel’s disobedience and wandering from God, God remembered. When they obeyed, they saw God’s strength and goodness; when they disobeyed, they saw God’s judgment and grace.

Remember God (verses 1-6)

When people forget God’s acts of kindness, they drift away from Him. Yet His loyal love is everlasting. The effect of God’s remembering is salvation and restoration. He has blessed us with spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. When we confess our remembered sin, God expresses His goodness in His mercy that endures forever. Since we do not cease to be sinful, we are blessed because God does not cease to be merciful. May we respond with praise.

Many, Lord our God, are Your wonderful works. We thank You for Your great loving-kindness toward us. We praise You, for You are good. Your love endures forever. Who can proclaim Your mighty acts or fully declare Your praise? Help us to act justly and do what is right. Remember us and show us favor. We have sinned; we have done wrong and acted unwisely. Yet You still invite us to enjoy the prosperity of Your chosen ones. We give You all our praise.
