Worship the Lord (Psalm 96, Part 3)

The King’s Coming: Rejoice in the Lord (verses 11-13)

11Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad;
         let the sea resound, and all that is in it.
12Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them;
      let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.
13Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes,
      he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
      and the peoples in his faithfulness.

As the supreme Judge of the earth, God calls on all people, and all sea and land creatures to rejoice in Him, acknowledging the blessings of the God of peace. May we rejoice in God’s coming to judge with righteousness and truth. He punishes evil and provides help and protection for the righteous. Society is safe where God is king.

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice before You, Lord our coming King. Let the seas and the fields exult, and everything in them sing for joy before You. Thank You that You will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in Your faithfulness.

The good news of God’s kingdom is for everyone. God so loved the whole world, that He sent His beloved Son through whom He provides rescue. We can therefore sing this song to Him, giving Him the glory due His name.

Let all on earth their voices raise
To sing the great Jehovah’s praise
And bless his holy name.
His glory let the people know,
His wonders to the nations show,
His saving grace proclaim.
Isaac Watts (1674-1748)
