Trust in God’s Love (verses
9-12)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2062:9-12&version=NIV
Riches and power too often result from extortion,
exploitation and deception. But even legitimately earned wealth too often leads
to self-reliance. When we increase in wealth and power, we forget to trust in
God. We must confront the false appeal of our materialistic society. Trust in
things, people, or ourselves, ultimately brings emptiness. We will experience
many unresolved injustices until Christ returns. In the meantime, may we listen
to God. Full of love, God will deliver His people.
Loving God, help us not to set our hearts on
our wealth. We pray that we would open ourselves completely to You. Praise You,
Strong and Loving God, power belongs to You. We trust Your unfailing love. We
ask You to increase our love for others.
Lord, our God, our sure refuge in need,
grant us to love one another, and to honor and obey those You have placed over
us. But teach us by Your Spirit to trust alone in You, and not to make flesh
our arms, that we may look to You alone for our salvation through Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Martin Luther
