A Prayer for Refuge (Psalm 61, Part 3)

Songs of praise (verse 8)

Our songs of praise respond to God’s mighty acts. When we are pressed, we may cry; and when we cry, we will be heard; and when we are heard, we will praise God. Since God daily fulfills His promises, may we daily fulfill our vows and praise God.

Lord God, teach us to sing praises to You. May our lives be increasingly characterized as lives of praise and gratitude to You, our God.

How oft in the conflict, when pressed by the foe,
I have fled to my Refuge and breathed out my woe;
How often, when trials like sea billows roll,
Have I hidden in thee, O thou Rock of my soul.
William Orcutt Cushing (1823-1902)
