Why Do Evil People Prosper (Psalm 73), Part 1

How should we respond to the injustices around us, with righteous people suffering and evil people prospering? Why does a God of love allow His people to suffer and unrighteous people to prosper?

Missing the Boat (verses 1-6)

When we feel that we are missing the boat we need to acknowledge God’s goodness. When we question God’s justice, we find ourselves filled with resentment and envy. May God’s truth lead us not to judge only by what we see. Evil people brag and bully as they ride roughshod over others. God seems to let them get away with their wickedness. May we recognize God’s gift of Himself as an incomparable blessing and encourage others to join us in praying through our negative emotions and hope in God’s goodness.

Loving God, we feel that we have missed the boat. Surely You are good to those who are pure in heart. Help us to keep our eyes focused on You and not on the people around us. Sustain us and keep us close to Yourself. Keep Your Body from envy, pride and violence.
